Vioxx

What is Vioxx?
This allows pain relief from a type of arthritis called osteoarthritis. This is a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and is a prescription only. Worldwide sales of Vioxx in 2003 were an estimated $2.5Billion and the drug was marketed in more than 80 countries around the world.

Side effects
Vioxx side effects can include kidney damage, heart problems, stomach ulcers and liver damage. Vioxx has also been linked with an increase in blood pressure, Dr. Frederick Wolfe told Reuters Health, "we found that patients taking rofecoxib (Vioxx) were more likely to develop (limb swelling) or to have an increase in blood pressure than patients using celecoxib (Celebrex) or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)."

Legal Action
Carolyn Baker has filed a lawsuit against Vioxx claiming unspecified damages and compensation. But on the whole there do not seem to be that many lawsuits against Vioxx. Twenty-million people took Vioxx since it was introduced in 1999, and Merck said it had been sued in at least 700 Vioxx-related cases through Nov. 30. If you believe that you have been harmed as a result of Vioxx then see an attorney as quickly as possible.
